Operation and performance of servo-operated space sextant has been investigated with fixed-cockpit analog-computer simulation; optical characteristics of sextant were 27 × and 1.8° field of view; one-arc-second computational accuracy was obtained using second-order perturbation angle techniques on computer; overall system, which incorporated cathode ray tube display, had accuracy level of plus or minus two arc seconds with man-in-loop and no vehicle or target motion; effects of target and vehicle motion were studied.
