Operating model vehicle was tested over wide range of surface conditions; preliminary performance comparisons of 4, 6, and 8-wheel, split-track and full-track vehicles, and predictions of prototype performance were made; test vehicle which employed NORTHROP "Walking Beam Suspension" system permits efficient use of scuff steering, and provides many of advantages of tracked vehicle at higher mechanical efficiencies and reliability; it also promises advantages in performance and maneuverability, operational adaptability and multitask capabilities.
