Most successful cyclotron-resonance accelerator designs were of Longitudinal-interaction type; quartz, alumina, sapphire, and beryllia were employed at medium and high power to separate evacuated plasma chamber from remainder of waveguide circuit; accelerator may be made sufficiently short so that appreciable percentage of RF power (up to 65% at X band) ultimately appears in accelerated plasma stream; peripheral gas injection yielded better results than injection through hole in window; this accelerator is assessed to have propulsion potentialities, particularly if space system into which it is incorporated has substantial RF capacity for communications purposes.
