Paper surveys and analyzes current space vehicle checkout problems and trends showing limitations of manual and automatic ground checkout systems; concept of integral checkout system, whereby equipment is built into space vehicle, overcomes problems of compatibility of data from one checkout station to another and handling correlation of change in flight equipment with checkout systems; weight of equipment added to vehicle can be controlled by using on-board navigation and guidance computer and pulse-code-modulated (PCM) telemetry systems in checkout loop; function of man in space checkout system is discussed.
