Parametric amplifiers provide low system noise temperature for both main tracking and acquisition antennas; noise temperature of 170 K is achieved without cooling; units are housed in weatherproof, pressurized containers to allow mounting without weather protection; network is designed to measure noise figure or inject test signals while receivers are connected to antenna terminals; arrangement also allows more realistic tests of signal threshold.
