System is described which should help reduce accidents at traffic lights on high-speed roads; it has computing device to control traffic-signal switching so that changes of right-of-way do not occur when drivers are unable to stop safely within distance available to them; experiments with existing traffic-signal systems have shown that critical sections, of lengths dependent on vehicle speeds, exist on approaches to traffic lights.
