Results of economic analysis of tanker operation in clean service vs operation under conventional policy of corrosion protection; analysis is for hypothetical, 30,000-ton dw tanker of conventional design, and referred to as SS Petrol; vessel has 10 tanks, each with wing and center compartments, and is equipped with Butterworth tankcleaning system; tanker is now 5 yr old and has been operated in predominantly clean service, normally makes 29 sorties/yr over distance of 2000 mi between ports of call; normal planning provides for 7 days/yr out of service for shipyard repairs.
