Current tractor lubricant requirements and areas of concern which tend to define future requirements are outlined; specific areas where lubricants for agricultural tractor engines need further understanding of lubrication phenomena involved are pointed out and possible revision in current engine oil test procedure is suggested; modification of existing Caterpillar 1-G Test Engine and use of sliding cam and follower valve train would facilitate investigation into area of satisfactory valve train lubrication with contaminated diesel engine oil; future requirements are considered.
