Advantages of hydrostatic traction drives include elimination of mechanical clutches, infinite speed range, low maintenance due to hydraulics being enclosed, and dynamic braking; features of hydraulic system, used in Case 130 and Colt Super H tractor, are described; Wooster 0.68-cu in. displacement gearpump is coupled directly to 10- or 12-hp Kohler engine and has top speed of 3600 rpm; pump feeds through Char-Lynn special four-way valve to Char-Lynn low speed, high torque motor which uses orbit principle as developed by Char-Lynn; other design considerations are described.
