Headway-speed relationship within platoons was investigated and it is shown that headway of vehicle in platoon on single lane roadway can be considered as random variable whose expected value is function of velocity; data from Holland Tunnel, New York, NY, strongly suggest that mean headway can be represented as linear function of velocity, and distribution about mean is log-normal; log-normal distribution allows significance level for classifying vehicles as platoon members or non-members to be set up.
