Fearless was completed by Harland and Wolff Ltd, while sister ship, Intrepid, is fitting out at Clydebank by John Brown and Co; new ships are primarily intended to carry military heavy armor to beachhead and at same time act as naval and brigade headquarters once assault has been mounted; displacement is about 10,000 tons, length oa 520 ft, beam 80 ft, and draft 20 1/2 ft; defensive armament comprises four quadruple Seacat launchers for surface-to-air missiles and two single 40-mm AA guns; main propulsion is by two sets of English Electric double reduction geared turbines taking steam at 550 psi and 850 F from two Babcock and Wilcox boilers.
