Results of direct measurements in absolute units of total heat supplied to spark gap by ignition systems of different types operating at various speeds under conditions equivalent to those in cylinder of high-compression aviation engine. Values ranging from 0. 00015 B.t.u. per spark in more powerful magnetos to 0.00003 B.t.u. in case of battery system are recorded.
