Proportions of the various chemical elements which author has found to give good results for Diesel engine cylinder liners and pistons are: total carbon, 3 to 3.2 per cent; silicon, 1 to 1.2 per cent; phosphorus, not over 1 per cent; sulphur, 0.12 per cent; manganese, not over 0.5 per cent; and that most advantageous amount of steel to be added to mixture is 15 per cent.
