June 4: Discussion of two principal methods of directing train movements -- time interval and space interval. June 11: Comparative effectiveness of railway operation by train orders and by signal indication is discussed. Signal indication is preferred principally because necessary lapse of time between receipt and execution of train order is considered as element of weakness which does not exist in the case of operation by signals.
