It is contended that propulsive coefficient derived synthetically from model experiments is not realized in actual ship. Values of propeller efficiency, wake factor, or hull efficiency in model and actual ships are compared. Suggestions in design of ships are formulated from study of test data obtained in trials of various ships. Paper read before Instn. Naval Architects.
