Need of reducing operating expenses led to design of Bellanca Airbus: operating costs approximate 36 cents per mi. as against 62 cents per mi for three-engined ships of less capacity; reducing cost to 2 1/2 cents per half-mile enables airline operator to undersell rail transportation.
