Preliminary tests were made to determine extent to which such ailerons might be effective in reducing spinning tendencies; this type of aileron consists of airfoil surface mounted in vicinity of each wing tip and balanced both statically and aerodynamically about lateral axis so that it may align itself with relative wind when lateral control is in neutral.
