Three bases of aircraft-power-plant classification: (1) form, (2) process of cooling and (3) fuel-utilization method, are given; fundamental requirements that aircraft power plant should meet are (1) minimum weight, (2) minimum dependability, (3) maximum fuel economy, (4) maximum dependability, (5) maximum ease of maintenance, all of which are somewhat elastic and require more specific definition.
