Pennsylvania Railroad is successfully effacing rail corrugations and other minor surface defects on large scale basis with new type grinder car that embodies steel backed cup wheels as grinding agency; article describes mechanical details of new car, its method of operation and results which are being obtained; grinder motors are 5-hp units, `wound for operation with 220-v, 3-phase, 60-cycle current and operate at 3600 rpm.
