Study to evaluate accuracy with which pilots in flight simulator can determine vertical flight paths and relative altitude of other aircraft from altitude-coded dot-dash light signals as opposed to uncoded lights flashing at fixed frequency; flashing light signals were presented using modified F-100/151 flight simulator and aerial gunnery trainer; subjects were tested with pre-arranged problems involving 3 rates of altitude change and number of collision courses and vertical misses.
