Sixth in series of annual statistical surveys of current model cars; 28 laboratories submitted data for 496 United States cars of 1962 model; these included 349 cars tested in proportion to production volume plus 147 additional cars tested to provide larger samples of each of 8 selected models; maximum octane number requirements for cars tested are tabulated; requirements expressed as Research octane number of reference fuel which produced borderline knock due to either spark knock or surface ignition knock, whichever was limiting.
