Limit value of carbon brushes for d-c and a-c traction motors is defined as that stress at which carbon tips of contact bridges begin to burn; determination of relationships between thermal and electrical stresses due to longitudinal currents and shunt currents, limit loads for carbon brushes of d-c motors, and values of electromotive force of transformation permissible for a-c motors as function of starting current.
