Laboratory investigation at Univ California of pressure-sinkage relationship of various clays and mixtures of clay with clastic silt and sand; study also included effects of water content and clay-clastic ratio on strength of soil; pressure sinkage tests on soil samples consisted of forcing circular or rectangular footings into sample at constant rate of strain and measuring resisting force as function of sinkage; Bekker's soil parameters were used to describe strength of soils.
