Paper reports results obtained from suspending small bluff body elements of fine wires at various depths within laminar boundary layer (BL) determining under what conditions and by what mechanism elements induce transition of BL; problem simulates one of BL containing relatively low concentration of foreign particles which travel at high relative speeds with respect to local gas flow; in addition to quantitative results obtained from suspending bluff body elements within BL, semiquantitative and phenomenological results are discussed regarding transient conditions of disturbance elements traversing BL.
