Results obtained in ballistics range facilities at U S Naval Ordnance Laboratory are presented relative to effects of Mach number, Reynolds number, and wall-to-stagnation enthalpy ratio on laminar-to-turbulent wake flow transition and on base flow geometry; effects of wall-to-stagnation enthalpy can be obtained by adjusting ambient temperature in ballistics range; results reported were obtained from measurements and observations made on shadowgraphs and schlieren photographs of flow.
