Review of current developments in fire protection and problems associated with supersonic transports; currently available detection equipment of continuous wire type demands attention to details of its installation; armored fire detector wire is worthy of serious consideration but its popularity will depend on adoption of policy of reduced detection coverage; surveillance type detectors could make unique contribution in detection of torching flames; treatment of fire precautions on supersonic aircraft must be related to design speed; at cruising speeds in excess of about Mach 2.6 problems become critical.
