Problem of noise from arriving and departing aircraft is examined under following factors -- keeping aircraft as far as possible laterally from residential areas; keeping aircraft as high as possible when passing over residential areas; restricting power settings; numerical limitations on jet movements; acoustic insulation of buildings; and education and public relations; Heathrow Airport's current practice and noise abatement rules; practice at other international airports, New York, Paris, Frankfort/ Main, West Germany, Zurich, Switzerland, Oslo, Norway, Tokyo, Japan, etc; future developments.
