One of novel problems presented by supersonic transports is control of complex power plants needed to achieve optimum efficiency over very wide range of forward speeds; paper is intended as elementary introduction, using Concorde as basis; table lists eleven control variables; in addition, there are following subsidiary variables related to secondary air cut-off, engine bay ventilation door, fire doors, cabin air heat exchanger inlet door; functional specification of control systems is established and crew's job of propulsion management is described step-by-step in course of typical mission.
