In program carried out by McDonnell Aircraft Corp rudder on McDonnell F-4C aircraft was selected to demonstrate advantages of beryllium application; design considerations and analysis relating to rudder design loads, balance weight loads, panel flutter, thermal environment, rudder weight, buckling and crippling criteria; fabrication and assembly of beryllium structures; rudder test program consisting of element test and rudder ground test program using Be in selected areas.
