Most important application of cellular plastics to aircraft construction is as lightweight space filler to withhold moisture and add rigidity and strength; products also find use in control devices, sound transmission barriers, vibration dampeners, protection and insulation of cargo, machinery parts and equipment, auto parts, fresh foods, etc; polystyrene and urethane foams dominate; Federal Aviation Agency demands increased fire retardance.
