Account of research carried out in United States and Europe to alleviate vehicle-skidding problem which is function of many variables, but depends primarily on pavement-tire interface; examination of dry-pavement skidding, wet-pavement skidding, viscous hydroplaning, dynamic hydroplaning and reverted-rubber skid; approaches for alleviating vehicle-skidding accidents comprise vehicle-operator education; vehicle design and certification; tire design and wear; pavement design and wear and pavement grooving; examples of research experiments.
