Long-range international fleet of 1970s will be composed of current types to remain in service, advanced-technology jets, and supersonic transport; impact of advanced jets and introduction of supersonic transport will create airport problems relating to runway strength, runway length, terminal area, and air-cargo facilities; these areas are critically examined; it is concluded that continued development of airport as element of local transportation system, as part of comprehensive pattern of land use, as focal point of industrial development, and as critical segment of gigantic air-traffic system is responsibility of whole aviation community.
