Analysis of relative world-wide economic importance of plastics for automotive and related transportation manufacturing industries; problems in obtaining reliable statistical data; based on estimated average of 12 kg/vehicle and total global production of 1,550,000 vehicles for year 1963, total consumption of plastics in cars would be 18,550 tons for that year to which 3 or 4000 tons for planes, trains, and boats should be added; applications correlated with most appropriate types of plastic.
