Derrick Barge No. 12, built for J.Ray McDermott Co by Levingston Shipbuilding Co, can be towed across open seas for work in any area of world; hull is 400 ft long, 100 ft wide, and 28 ft 6 in. deep; boom length from heel pins, located 25 ft above deck, to main load sheave pin is 233 ft; from heel pins to whip line sheave pin is 274 ft; revolving crane can lift 500-ton load at 30 ft clear of hull side and swing it 360°; anchoring system comprises 18,000-lb main sea anchor and eight 15,000-lb breast anchors; mooring winches are mounted below barge deck, with mooring lines fed through below-deck trunks, and are monitored with closed circuit TV.
