Features of design of Pullman cars for British Railways with low noise levels; trucks had positively located axleboxes and long vertical swing links; primary suspension incorporates cylindrical axle guides which contain simple holed-plate hydraulic dampers active during part of downstroke only; traction arms are placed 7 ft 6 in. apart from each other with ends secured by spherical rubber bushes; extensive tests have shown that at 90 mph amplitudes of primary suspension oscillations were reduced from plus or minus 1/4 in. to plus or minus 1/8 in., while those of secondary suspension remained at plus or minus 1/8 in.; sketch of acoustic and thermal insulation is given.
