Potential of underfloor-engined railcar and its related running costs; railcar is powered by single engine driving through integrally mounted torque converter, through cardan shaft to axle-mounted reversing final drive unit; radiator is underfloor mounted, in this case, with fan mechanically driven by cardan shaft through right-angle gearbox; in Japan standard railcar unit is of 180 hp, and on British Railways earlier units have engines of 150 hp.
