Features of Rotterdam, Netherlands, subway units are described; each set, consisting of two cars, has overall length of 29 m, width of 2. 68 m and service weight of 39.5 tons; specifications of cars are given; all-steel car bodies are of completely welded construction and underframe, bodyframe, side-sheets and roof form integral load-bearing structure; interior design, windows, sliding doors, fluorescent lighting, electro-pneumatic braking system, and secondary suspension are discussed; train is normally manually operated, but railroad is divided into zones with coded track circuits for automatic control.
