In 1936, Daimler-Benz, Stuttgart, West Germany, was one of first companies to bring out passenger car equipped with diesel engine; its 4 cyl, 4-stroke engine with displacement of 2.6 liter delivered 45 bhp at speed of 3500 rpm; after World War II special development program was started, which led to production of diesel engines with top speed of 4500 rpm; constructional features and leading data of 4-cyl 4-stroke passenger car diesel engines, models OM 138, OM 636 and OM 621.
