New ferry of 3333 gross tons was built by Cammell Laird and Co (Shipbuilders) Ltd, is owned by Burns and Laird Lines Ltd, and in operation between Ardrossan and Belfast has cut journey from Scotland to Ireland from 9 to just over 4 hr; length oa 363 ft 6 in., breadth molded 65 ft, depth molded to main deck 20 ft, draft loaded 14 ft; maximum continuous rating of each of two Crossley-Pielstick engines is 5500 bhp at 465 rpm, and service rating is 4675 bhp at 440/465 rpm; plan.
