MV Hyak, first of four identical, new "super" ferries, has capacity of 2600 passengers and 160 automobiles; double-ended, 382 ft long diesel-electric driven "super" ferries cruise at 20 knots; main propulsion for MV Hyak and her three sister ferries now abuilding are four GM Electro-Motive Div 16-567E-5 diesels, each rated 2240 bhp at 835 rpm, which drive identical Westinghouse d-c generators; generators, 1525 kw, 500 v d-c at 835 rpm, power two 7000 hp Westinghouse propulsion motors, one at each end of ferry.
