New commutatorless motor with series characteristics developed; it is shown how it is possible, by use of grid-controlled rectifier, to eliminate not merely commutator of motor, but practically all of expensive control, switching, and reversing equipment commonly used on a-c and d-c locomotives; regenerative braking also made inexpensive and practicable.
