New towboat United States being built by St. Louis Shipbuilding and Steel for Federal Barge Lines; boat is 85 ft wide and 180 ft long; tug is quad-screw, with 8600 hp from four Cooper-Bessemer diesel engines; intended for service on lower Mississippi, it will be capable of pushing tows up to 40,000 tons.
