In study by Swedish Army Board and Volvo to investigate suitable power plants for military tracked vehicles, it was found that combined diesel-gas turbine power plant offered greater advantages, even if nonregenerative turbine had to be used; paper describes operation principles, basic components and their relative arrangement, and basic philosophy and thinking behind selection and design of unit; new combining gear and transmission arrangement with interlockable free-wheels, as well as some other new features incorporated are also described.
