Investigation was initiated to determine if hollow or tubular spaces could be filled; it was reasoned that if void areas existed in middle of tubes, they could be filled with lead nitrate or similar aqueous solution, which would be very opaque to electron beam; treated fibers unmistamably show filling of fibers along center with lead-containing solution; this offers possibility of altering certain properties of mineral.
