Maintenance policy in India is described which is reminiscent of wartime practice in Great Britain; extensive use is made of reclaiming techniques and situation is aggravated by climate, poor roads and often indifferent driving; dust is particular problem and can halve interval between engine overhauls compared to European standards; improvements being introduced are indicated.
