Hondo is first of 12,900 ton dw class of shelterdeck 19-knot ship developed jointly by technical departments of Swedish East Asiatic Co Ltd and Transatlantic Steam Ship Co Ltd, and Wilhelmsen Lines; shipbuilders are Eriksbergs Mek. Verkstads A/B (eight ships) and Uddavallavaret (four ships); length oa 512 ft 2-3/64 in., breadth molded 70 ft, dw on summer freeboard 30 ft 10 in.; 8-cyl Eriksbergs-B and W engine is fitted.
