Lateral stability of tractors with two- and four-wheel trailers and of articulated industrial vehicles is theoretically and experimentally investigated for different combinations of locked axles and in presence or absence of longitudinal forces; it is shown that stability depends on value of roots of fourth order equation; effect of variations of vehicle parameters is examined, and importance of proper situation of trailer's gravity center for preventing oscillatory instability is demonstrated; for articulated vehicles, main problem is that of static stability and proper design of front axle brakes.
