To determine steering system modifications required to derive maximum benefits, analysis of all steering system components is required; efficiency factors, determined at Ford Motor Co, were applied to theoretical calculations to obtain prediction which very closely approached actual vehicle measurements; 12,000-lb front axle test vehicle was selected for analysis; consideration is given to steering geometry, component design parameters, and human factors influential in steering acceptability of vehicle.
