It is noted that it is possible for ships to navigate using undersea features, which can be used night or day, in any weather as adjunct to, or independent of, electronic navigation aids; logical approach is use of bathymetric information which could be displayed on special charts published by Oceanographic Office; this information could then be used in conjunction with echo-sounding data recorded by ship; correlation of echo-sounding data and bathymetric chart would yield positional results; these aspects are discussed.
