Selective calling from coast stations to ship stations would expedite handling of traffic and would be faster and more positive than calling by voice; three different systems have been proposed for international adoption; they are two-tone system, sequential single frequency code system, and composite tone system; factors influencing practical adoption of system are discussed in terms of these three systems.
